BAME Members sought for roles on RICS SRB - closing 27.01.20
Led by the appointed Chair Dame Janet Paraskeva DBE [former Chief Executive of the Law Society] the RICS' new 'SRB' Standards and Regulation Board is an opportunity for members of the surveying profession to contribute towards the responsibility and accountability of all regulatory activity at RICS, amidst the wider public interest. The Board will commence its formal role / responsibility in February 2020.
RICS Standards and Regulation Board Members
RICS has recently been conducting a recruitment exercise to appoint both independent members and RICS Chartered Surveyors to its new Standards and Regulation Board, which will have global responsibility. RICS is now seeking to fill two remaining positions. One vacancy is for an independent member position and the other for a Chartered Surveyor.
RICS would welcome applications from women from black and ethnic minority communities. RICS would also welcome applicants who work or live outside or in the UK, and who can bring that global perspective, especially with African or Asian Pacific experience.
Following the positive vote from the profession in November 2018 to modernise and transform our governance, RICS’ Standards and Regulation Board is currently being established. Independently-chaired, the new global Board will combine responsibilities previously held by the separate Knowledge and Regulatory Boards.
It will be responsible for overseeing and upholding the profession’s standards through a global assurance and enforcement regime, providing independent oversight and a public-interest perspective across the standard setting and regulatory processes.
The role
For the creation of the new Board we are seeking five independent Board members and five RICS professional members and fellows. Please note that any member of the Standards and Regulation Board is ineligible to sit on other RICS Boards and Committees and upon appointment to the Standards and Regulation Board, candidates must resign any other such roles at RICS.
Members appointed to the new Standards and Regulation Board will:
Work with RICS’ Executive to develop the strategic direction of RICS’ function as a self-regulating professional body
Collaborate with other RICS Governance Boards and Stakeholders
Inspire stakeholder confidence in RICS as a professional body, working with others to ensure that RICS remains trusted to set and enforce the profession’s standards
Work in the public interest to protect the public and promote better regulation policy
Oversee the operational delivery of our regulatory objectives, ensuring that the profession’s technical and ethical standards are assured and enforced in a proportionate, risk-based and carefully targeted way which takes account of different regional circumstances.
The candidate
Suitable candidates will be able to demonstrate a sound understanding of performance and risk management in a similar regulatory, compliance or legal role. Collaborative yet able to exercise independent and sound judgement, individuals must possess intellectual flexibility, high levels of resilience, confidence and professionalism. The right candidate will demonstrate an unimpeachable reputation for probity, integrity and fairness.
We are looking for strategic thinkers, with outstanding analytical ability and an understanding of working with cultural and national differences.
The role is remunerated at a rate of £5440 per annum.
Remuneration and expenses will be paid in accordance with RICS policies.
You must be available for four Board meetings a year plus travel time. Virtual attendance will be expected at catch up calls scheduled intermittently throughout the year as well as participation in ad hoc additional committee work. The anticipated maximum time commitment for this role is 10 days per annum.
The successful candidate will take up their new role in early 2020 on the establishment of the new Standards and Regulation Board.
